After Crown and Bridge Appointments:
Conventional crowns and onlays usually take two appointments to complete. On the first appointment the teeth are prepared. Temporary crowns or onlays are placed to protect the teeth while the custom restoration is being made at the laboratory. However, with our state of the art Cerec 3D System, we can do it all in one appointment.
After each appointment when anesthetic has been used, your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for approximately 2-3 hours after the appointment. Avoid any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off.
Rinse three times a day with warm salt water (a tsp. of salt in a cup of warm water, rinse-swish-spit) to reduce pain and swelling as necessary. As with every other procedure, make sure to pick up the medication(s) prescribed and follow the directions written on the vial(s).
If you have temporary restorations, avoid eating sticky or chewy foods such as gum, hard foods, and if possible, chew only on the opposite side of your mouth. It's important to continue to brush normally, but floss very carefully and remove the floss sideways to prevent removal of the temporary crown. In case your temporary comes off, keep it and contact us so we can place it back in.
It's normal to experience some hot, cold and pressure sensitivity after your appointment. Your gums may be sore for several days. Please contact us if you feel any kind of interference within your bite. It is common for a new restoration to require a slight adjustment within a few days after delivery.
