Correct Malocclusions With Orthodontics

Research has it that about 80% of the population suffers from some form of dental misalignment (malocclusion). There is hardly anyone who is not concerned about oral health; people go to great lengths to undo the damage done to their teeth but seldom take time to evaluate the cause. Keeping dental problems at bay is as critical as maintaining oral health. The main reasons for dental problems revolve around bad oral hygiene and genetic disposition. There are several dental issues that are hereditary like teeth crowding, teeth overlap, crooked teeth, and in some cases even chipped teeth. If these issues are not handled in due time and by the right professionals, chances are that the damage may become irreversible.

Habits like thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, teeth grinding also lead to malocclusion and jaw bite irregularities. Orthodontics deals with issues such as jaw bite irregularities, tooth decay, chewing difficulties, chipped teeth, teeth that don’t fit together and speech impairments caused due to badly aligned teeth. Orthodontic procedures correct malocclusions and reverse or prevent damage to teeth, jaws and gums.

Ceramic or white braces are also available for better appearance.

Orthodontic procedures, on average, are spread over a period of 16-24 months and the preparation routines depend on the kind of treatment prescribed. Whether orthodontics treatment is chosen for esthetics or otherwise, it is a procedure that promises to make a difference in the patient’s overall oral health.
