After Root Canal Therapy:

Root canal therapy is often completed in one appointment at our office. Most patients prefer to get their final restoration on the same visit. After your dental visit when anesthetic has been used- your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for several hours after the appointment. Avoid eating until the numbness has completely worn off.

It's normal to experience some discomfort for a few days after a root canal appointment, especially during mastication(chewing). To control discomfort, take the medications as recommended.

If antibiotics are prescribed, continue to take them even if all symptoms and signs of infection are gone. If there is a temporary restoration placed on the treated tooth, avoid eating sticky foods (especially gum), hard foods, and if possible, chew only on the opposite side of your mouth. Do continue to brush and floss normally.

A cosmetic crown or onlay is most likely necessary after root canal therapy to protect the tooth from fracture. We will gladly explain to you your options.
